Marchwell Studios is a new creative workspace in Chichester, providing 18 affordable studios for artists, makers, creative freelancers, emerging practitioners and small creative businesses.
Based at the historic Graylingwell Park, the Studios combine professional creative workspace with shared facilities for workshops, learning, exhibitions, events and community activity.
More than just a place to work, Marchwell will create opportunities to make, learn, connect and collaborate — bringing a new creative community together while giving an important historic building a sustainable future.
Through a mix of affordable and commercial studio rents, Marchwell Studios will support artists, makers, creative freelancers, emerging practitioners and small creative businesses at different stages of their creative journey.
We are committed to making creative opportunities more accessible to people who can face barriers to establishing a career in the creative sector. Our partnership with the University of Chichester will help create pathways for emerging creatives and graduates as they move from education into professional creative practice.
Our approach is rooted in inclusion, representation and opportunity. We want Marchwell to be a place where people from different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives can develop their practice, build connections and contribute to a thriving creative community.
The Plans
Set around a central courtyard, Marchwell Studios will provide 18 affordable creative studios within approximately 8,000 sq ft of restored Grade II-listed buildings.
The Studios will bring together artists, makers, emerging practitioners and small creative businesses, with shared facilities supporting creative learning, workshops, exhibitions, events and community activity.
Affordable rents will help make the Studios accessible to people at different stages of their creative journey, from emerging practitioners and graduates to established artists, makers and creative businesses.
With its combination of dedicated studios, shared facilities and community spaces, Marchwell will be more than a place to work — it will be a place to make, learn, connect and grow.
Built by the Community, for the Community
Marchwell Studios is a community-owned creative space, brought back into use by Chichester Community Development Trust to create lasting benefit for the people of Chichester.
By restoring an important historic building and giving it a new purpose, CCDT is creating affordable workspace where artists, makers, and emerging practitioners can develop their work and build sustainable creative careers.
But Marchwell is designed to be more than a collection of private studios. Shared facilities, workshops, exhibitions, events and opportunities to learn and connect will open the Studios up to the wider community.
The aim is simple: to create a thriving creative community while preserving an important part of Chichester’s heritage for future generations.
